Today’s today is for today not tomorrow. If I knew tomorrow today, I wouldn’t worry so much about tomorrow. The thing though, sometimes I wish I knew everything about tomorrow because that might help with my anxiety today…but that’s simply not real. So I am left with trying to make peace with today today and tomorrow tomorrow.
Right now, life is giving me lemonade, apple cider vinegar, prune juice and maybe tequila. Mashed up into some divine cocktail to wash down the fear, anxiety and uncertainty that exists in my “in between” season of life (thank you ChatGPT). I imagine myself having to moonwalk, not like Michael but like an astronaut. Only, when I am moon walking, my tether becomes broken and I find myself floating in the freezing emptiness of outer space. I can see the stars twinkling and the planets glowing, but I can’t seem to find my ship–the thing that is supposed to bring me home. So I float, and I look and I realize that I have no control over whether not I find my ship. “F*ck,” I think to myself as the realization turns to panic which in turn becomes some version of acceptance.
This whole analogy doesn’t have some happy ending. It’s just where I am. It’s where I find many of us are actually and I don’t give a rats ass about sugarcoating it. This shit is hard. Life is weird and many many people take it one day at a time. Some of us end up moonwalking our way into oblivion not knowing where our ships went, hoping that we bump into it or at least into another astronaut having the same problem. The problem though isn’t the fact that we are lost, it’s how we perceive ourselves when we are in fact ~lost~. Do we still understand we are worthy and valuable when lost? Do we believe we’ll find our way back? Do we think we are worthy of coming back?
I hate that “the only way through is through” saying is actually true. Like no shit lol I can’t skip anything?? If I could then I guess I would cheat myself out of all the juicy difficult life lessons that make me a better well rounded person or whatever. The reality is that sometimes everything makes sense when nothing makes sense aka my lemonade, apple cider vinegar, prune juice, tequila cocktail is actually the very concoction that will set me up for a beautiful future I never would have seen coming. Having faith and believing that though? Having faith that my untethered moon walk will be the very thing that grounds me on a new planet? That’s the hard part. Like you mean to tell me that the only way through a messy season of life is to kEeP gOiNg ?? Yeah I guess so. And who knows, maybe I actually like the taste of lemonade, apple cider vinegar, prune juice, and tequila.
This one is short and sweet (maybe a lil bitter) but maybe it makes sense. It does to me!
